Bold Block styles tend to make strong statements. While thin line Script Faces give the feeling of Elegance.
Hand Lettering styles are casual in feeling and Calligraphic seem to enhance the free hand styles with more class. Fonts With Serifs (spurs) tend to be more Comic and CARTOON styles say it very clearly Decorative Styles need to fit the picture as  close as possible. Old English can only work in certain instances.Mixing up styles always brings character to any layout.

For Vinyl Cutting:

Thin styles should not be used in vinyl graphics sizes smaller than 3 inches in height.
Decorative styles tend to have a lot of detail and fall into that same category.
